for all Carlisle newbies: Note that there is a "back way" from the hotel to the Fairgrounds (and vice versa, of course) that will save you huge amounts of in-traffic time getting to and from the Fairgrounds. I know it but can't explain it here. Hopefully, someone with the directions will post them.

I think you are talking about the old hotel? If there is a back way from the new one we were at last year, I'd like to get it from you.

Yes, i'm talking about the new hotel, the one we were in last year with no lighting in the parking lot. the back way cuts off all the through-town traffic. You come out north of the fairgrounds. I'll look it up on mapquest and post directions although these were posted in last year's maillist traffic.

I think we documented the "back way" on-line last year, so Paul should be able to find it and post again. I can picture the entire route in my head as I type this, but it's too many turns to describe here. With the exception of one turn, it's pretty logical - there's just one turn where you take a right and head northeast for a bit, when logic would tell you to turn left.
Regardless, be careful in your use of the "Loud" pedal when going the back way. There are several opportunities for "Carlisle's finest" to collect your hard-earned dollars on this route, and they aren't shy about doing so.

Actually, it was ME who posted the directions. I hope these are correct but after driving it for 2+ days last year, I think it can't be too far off:
From the fairgrounds: Turn right on Spring Road after exiting the fairgrounds. Then turn right on West Middlesex Drive to a right on Wolf Bridge Road to a left on Clemson Road to a right on North Middlesex which intersects with Route 11. Turn left on Route 11 and the Clarion should be on your right (a half mile down Route 11?). The reverse, of course, will get you back to the fairgrounds.

Thanks Rich & Brad. As provided last year, the detailed directions from the hotel to the showgrounds using the 'alternate' route are in the 'Directions' section of the web site. Fliers will be available during the event should anyone need them.
There is also a downloadable pdf map. Many of us used this route last year and it worked out well.
Other pertintent event information will be included on the main Carlisle 2005 web site in the next few weeks.

So.. say someone such as myself is planning on pitching a tent, but still wants to socialize in the hotel lot.. will I be able to get my car in and out of the showgrounds at a late hour, or do the gates get locked at night? How does this whole thing work...?

Yep - my buddy Jack camped last year (and is camping again this year) and hung out at the hotel until late hours and then drove back to the showfield which has 24hr access at one gate.
You'll meet him on the convoy & he can fill you in on any questions you have.
He calls me crazy to pay over $200 for 2 nights at the hotel when he only pays $15 for 2 nights at the fairgrounds which includes restrooms, showers, etc.

Yeah, you guys are nuts for staying in the hotel... and I've gotta put my Boy Scouting skills to use some day.

Well, I've done lots of camping, and enjoy it, but what can I say? You reach a certain age, and you'd just rather be comfortable!
